How often do we as Doctors review ourselves and our health and our wellbeing? We are experts at reviewing our patients. So as we approach the end of 2022, set aside 15 or so minutes and try this:
Make yourself your favourite drink then sit in your favourite chair in your favourite part of your house. Do whatever else you feel is right for you to do to “set the scene” before you begin your reflections. Take a piece of paper, a notebook, your journal and then ask yourself the following questions-
1. Overall, what has this year taught me about…
- Myself?
- Others?
- My relationships?
- What’s important for my health and wellbeing?
- What’s important for my career satisfaction?
- What’s important for my life satisfaction?
2. What are my wins and achievements in 2022 (small and big)?
Having a calendar/diary to hand can help jog your memory.
3. What do I want to leave behind in 2022?
4. What do I now KNOW is really important to me to move forward with?
5. What will progress look like in these areas in the first 90 days of 2023?
6. If you had to choose one word for 2023, what would it be? Write your chosen word down on a post-it and put it somewhere where you can see it every day.
7. Give yourself permission to move forward with your answers to questions 1-6!
